The role over the four-year team is comprised of secondments across the major functions of the business associated with Project Engineering, alongside time in these roles, academic study towards an Engineering Degree BEng (Hons) at Canterbury Christ Church University shall be completed.

During the secondments increasing levels of responsibility shall be given in line with academic and internal training. The aim is to build deep and wide capability in the technical and commercial aspect of Project Engineering.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Follow the Higher and Degree Apprenticeship Program, including attendance CCCU for Academic study.
  • Through a series of structured secondments develop an appreciation leading to an eventual specialism after the term of the Degree Apprenticeship in the Engineering or Commercial aspects of our Power Generation Projects business.
  • Join project teams in seconded function to take responsibility for aspects of the work including. Upstream Influencing, Bidding, Sales - Business Development, Sales Application Engineering, Project Management, Delivery and Commissioning.
  • Support the wider commercial business in activities related to the Diesel and Gas project business in related functions including, Finance, HSEQ, Quality.
  • Working with your Line Manager and Mentor, develop specialism in the course of the four-year degree apprenticeship in one of the functions seconded. For example, this can be any one-off, (but not limited to) Commissioning, Project Management, Sales Application Engineering.
  • Continue professional develop through reviews with your coach and mentor support network.

Functions in which a selection of secondments will take place over the 4-year term of the Degree Apprenticeship.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams. Creo desirable not essential
  • A self-motivated, team player, that demonstrates a passion for engineering and a willingness to learn, with good verbal and written communications skills

Desired qualifications

5 GCSEs including Maths and English and a science, technology or engineering related subject at minimum grade C or 4 (or equivalent) and above and88 UCAS points from A Level including at least one from Level 3 Maths, Physics or Engineering(or equivalent)

  • 90 credits or more from a Level 3 Engineering BTEC(or equivalent)

  • Completion of Level 3 Engineering Standard Apprenticeship (or equivalent)

Things to consider

The 3-year degree programme is delivered Collaboratory between both MidKent College and Canterbury Christchurch University. With delivery being shared, the first 18 months of the degree are studied at MidKent College, Maidstone Campus. The second 18 months of the degree are studied at Canterbury Christchurch University from their Canterbury Campus.

Generally, office based with opportunities to undertake commercial and operational activities, including site visits and visits to other Cummins operational sites in the UK.
