About the apprenticeship


Assisting with the organisation & delivery of activities which develop children within the nursery socially, physically, intellectually & emotionally
Encouraging children to care for toys & equipment & to keep themselves & their environment clean, orderly condition
Supervising children when putting on & taking off outdoor clothing, shoes, aprons, etc & generally supervising the dressing of very small children
Assisting at meals
Ensuring that standards of hygiene are maintained e.g. hand washing & drying after using the toilet facilities & before eating, wiping down of surfaces with suitable cleanser, cleaning up of spillages
Supervising the children in all nursery activities & at play, particularly when they are in need of adult care e.g. when using scissors, glue, tools etc
Sitting with children in the book corner, reading to small groups of children, sitting with children during an activity & talking to them at all times to enrich their language & to encourage language development
Making themselves fully aware of, & complying with, key nursery policies, procedures & risk assessments
Encouraging children in their self confidence & self esteem and helping them in developing right from wrong
Managing children's behaviour in accordance with the nursery policy & in such a way as to promote their welfare & development
Actively prompting equality of opportunity & anti-discriminatory practice for all children
Any other duties

Sweet Pea Heath are seeking a mature, friendly and passionate individual to take on a Nursery Nurse apprenticeship and join our expanding team.
We are looking for someone who shares our passion for providing quality childcare. Our professional and dedicated staff team provide a stimulating, cosy and caring environment which promotes all aspects of children's development. We use high quality equipment and work in innovative environments to provide the very best in childcare. You will be working alongside qualified members of staff in a lively and friendly setting full time. You must have a basic understanding of child development and have good grammatical and basic numeracy skills.You will be friendly, hardworking and have a positive can-do attitude and be willing to take on the necessary duties involved to support your apprenticeship.



Experience in a similar post within a nursery setting
Ability to work as part of a close-knit staff team
Ability to develop good relationships and communicate effectively with parents
Ability to take initiative and make appropriate decisions
Ability to assist with keeping appropriate records


Level 2 CACHE Diploma or equivalent


Welsh Spoken Skills: No Welsh Written Skills: No

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
