About the apprenticeship


Completing assignments on time and attending work sessions with NVQ assessor.
Attend team meetings and imputing ideas.
Under supervision to provide all aspects of care for children including washing, changing and feeding.
Assist with meeting the personal and emotional needs of individual children.
Liaise with and support parents and other family members.
Be involved in out of working hour's activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, and any internal and external charity events.
Be flexible within working practices of nursery. Be prepared to help where needed, including Undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery, e.g. preparation of snack meals, meals, cleaning duties, cleansing of equipment etc.
Work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the project is fulfilled.
Provide adult interaction with children in the nursery.
Be aware of the nurseries confidentiality policy and all other policies and procedures.
Carry out visits with prospective parents when they come to the nursery.

Duties & Responsibilities Continued:
Contribute to good standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the Nursery.
Undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature, as may be determined by the assistant nursery nurse's section leader/supervisor from time to time.
The assistant nursery nurse's duties must at all times be carried out in compliance with the nursery's Equal Opportunities policy.
Look upon the nursery as a “whole” where help is to be mostly utilised, be constantly aware of the needs of the children.
Respect the confidentiality of information received.
Ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the need of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development.
Be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to uphold its standards at all times.
Be aware of all emergency and fire evacuation procedures.
Be aware of sections 7 & 8 of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
Understand that as part of training you will be required to move to other parts of the nursery.

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
