About the apprenticeship

Duties

Duties will include shadowing a qualified member of the company to learn the light welding skills and methods needed to complete your apprenticeship. You will have involvement primarily with light sheet metal within the automotive industry, welding using MIG/TIG methods and performing repairs on classic and vintage cars with the aim of restoration and repair. You will be working with all makes of vehicles though this company specialises in Porsche and VW in particular.

Additional information

Before applying for this position please ensure you are able to travel to and from the place of employment in Cardiff and to the XR Training Centre in Pyle once a week. You will be employed full-time as an Automotive Sheet Metal Welding Apprentice by this company based in Cardiff. You will be enrolled onto a level 2 apprenticeship in Welding & Fabrication, and undertake the following qualifications:
- NVQ Diploma in Fabrication & Welding Engineering
- Diploma in Engineering Technology
- Essential Skills in Application of Number, Communication and Digital Literacy level 1

Looking for an enthusiastic and committed person that really wants to succeed at an apprenticeship and a career in the automotive/metal fabrication industry.
Must be reliable.
Must display a mature attitude at all times.
Must have a strong work ethic.
Have a keen eye for detail and be able to read basic measurements (metric).
Proactive, willingness to learn.
Must be prepared to travel back and forth once a week to the XR Training Centre in Pyle for mandatory off-the-job training.
Driver preferable as company based off of bus route on an industrial estate.

Who can apply?

  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
