About the apprenticeship

Duties

• Triage of all Requests within the IT Service Desk Framework and Tools
• Ensure IT Service Desk service level agreements (SLA) are met
• First receiver for all IT Emergency Request calls
• Creation of New Requests deemed Critical
• Provide support to all users for hardware related issues
• Maintenance of IT Asset Management records
• Delivery of IT Auditing Requirements
• Assist with Hardware and Software Roll Out Projects
• Delivery of IT Onboarding for new colleagues
• Delivery of IT Offboarding for leavers
• Delivery, where required, of inductions and basic training for new colleagues
• Maintain IT Loan Equipment, in readiness for hardware issues so always ready for checkout
• Setup, Configuration and Support of all Printers
• Assist in the Delivery of a Clean Desk Policy (Cable Management & Security Considerations)
• Delivery of optimised and secure networks both On-Premise and ‘In Cloud'
• Undertaking Penetration Assessments/Testing
• Cover for colleagues during holidays (meetings & duties where applicable)
• Continuously improve job knowledge through learning opportunities

Additional information

• The role is 7:30 till 16:30 Monday to Friday, lunch 60 minutes. The position is a salaried position and more hours within the responsibility of this role will be required.
• Holiday allowance is 25 working days plus bank holidays. 3 days of the 25 must be taken in the days between Christmas and New Year. Holiday must be taken during the year
• Trial period for three months in which the notice period is one week. After confirmation of employment, the notice period will extend to one month.
• On confirmation, the Contract of Employment, H&S Handbook must be signed, and the staff handbook will be available for reading before signing. A copy of your driving license and passport is required.
• Salary is paid on the last day of the month.
• Based full time at Woodpecker House
• Work very closely with the IT Manager in execution of IT Deliverables
• Delivering a world class IT Service to colleagues and customers
• Delivery and maintenance of all Woodpecker infrastructure and systems both in ‘the Cloud' and On-Premise
• Supporting management of the IT Service Desk
• Delivery of IT Service across all Business Units/Territories
KPI's - Communicated Daily:
• Service Desk SLA's 97.5% with no External Dependencies
• Service Desk SLA's 90% with External Dependencies

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
