Job Details
Duties
As a Maintenance Technician, you will work on various types of plant and equipment commonly found throughout the engineering industry sectors.
Key duties/responsibilities
Electrical/Instrument/Mechanical routine maintenance of conventional/radiological plant/systems
Breakdown/fault finding and repair of all plant and systems
Supporting waste operations routine maintenance outages
Build/commission and test of new installations
Calibrations of fixed and portable instruments (conventional and radiological); and
Supporting existing maintenance technicians during daily work packages
Mechanical
Position, assemble, install and dismantle mechanical plant and equipment, which will include pumps, valves, gearboxes, pipework, to agreed specifications
Carry out planned, unplanned and preventative maintenance procedures on mechanical plant and equipment
Replace, repair and/or remove components in mechanical plant and equipment and ensure its return to operational condition; and
Diagnose and determine the cause of faults in mechanical plant and equipment

Working hours:
37 hours per week - Monday to Thursday (7:25-17:00) if appointed at Trawsfynydd
37 hours per week - Monday to Friday (08:00-16:30 Monday - Thursday; 08:00-13:00 Friday) if appointed at Wylfa
Salary:
1st Year - £12,750
1st Year after 6 months - £14,250
2nd Year - £17,202
3rd Year - £18,281
4th Year - £20,135
Training Provider Information
Coleg Menai
Length of training - 48 months
Year 1 - Term time attendance at Coleg Menai (Monday to Friday). College holidays at site
Year 2 - Day release at Coleg Menai, remainder of time at site
Year 3 & 4 - 100% of time based at site

ALS eligibility
Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:
- you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
- you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject
What are the benefits?
How much will I be paid?
You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500.
You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
