Your Role

Service Line:

Cygnet employs a small, but growing number of physiotherapists, working within the specialist service lines of neuro psychiatric rehabilitation, and specialist learning disability day services. This post is within Specialist Learning Disability Day Services based at Sheffield. It is a part time post which can be worked with some flexibility, as long as the needs of the service users can be met.

Summary of the site -
  • The specialist day services are aimed at providing adults with learning disabilities and associated health support needs to access meaningful day time occupation, and socialise with peers in a relaxed and welcoming setting .Recreational activities are provided with the additional therapeutic input from members of the staff team.
  • The staff team is made up from a manager, a deputy manager, team leaders, senior support workers, activity coordinator, SLT, OT, Nurse, Physio, and a team of support workers.
  • At full capacity the day service offers 50 places per day for service users with a variety of needs. Currently there are reduced numbers in attendance due to Covid security measures.
  • Clinical lead physio for Cygnet works from the centre one day each week, which will be key to the supervision and development of the successful applicant.
  • There is a hydrotherapy pool on site which provides the opportunity to deliver hydrotherapy to service users and to develop expertise in this area of practice.

Therapy Directorate

Physiotherapy is a growing profession within Cygnet, we work closely with the larger group of OT under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors. There are over 150 Occupational Therapists. Working together as a large team of AHPs in partnership with other disciplines including SLT and psychology. Interdisciplinary working and support is a crucial part of team working within these specialist services.

Every service line has lead therapists helping to shape and develop the clinical practice and also to assure and improve the quality of service provision and outcomes for our service users.

We ensure our clinicians are well supported and receive time for CPD, clinical supervision, and participation in service development activities.

Physiotherapy Preceptorship & Induction:

We understand the pandemic has brought with it challenging times, and we recognise this may have had an impact on some of your placement experiences. We are willing to offer the right package of support and development to anyone who is either new, or returning to practice after a break. We would facilitate this using the CSP Framework to ensure career development is underpinned by knowledge and skills gained through work experiences, supervision, CPD and lifelong learning.
