The Opportunity
  • An exciting unique opportunity has arisen with Adult Critical Care at Leeds Teaching Hospitals for Band 2 Clinical Support Workers to join our workforce.
  • We are looking to appoint highly motivated Clinical Support Workers who have a passion for delivering safe, high quality care to patients in Critical Care.
  • We are one of the largest congenital heart surgical units in the country and also provide care for multispecialties such as respiratory, oncology, general surgery, thoracic patient's, max fax, ENT, and Vascular patients.
  • Adult Critical Care in Leeds Teaching Hospitals consists of 5 critical care units, 3 at Leeds General Infirmary (General Critical Care, Cardiac Critical Care, and Neurosurgical Critical Care) and 2 at St James' Hospital (General Critical Care and Surgical - Oncology Critical Care).
  • We are recognised as #outstandingcriticalcare and working in our Adult Critical Care units at Leeds Teaching Hospitals offers specialty training and support through the Band 3 senior apprenticeship programme.

The Role
  • The successful candidates will be supportingregistered nurses, medical staff and other health care professionals to provide care for critically ill adults.
  • The successful candidates will provide and deliver a high standard of compassionate personal care recognising and meeting the specific needs of the patients.
  • The successful candidates will assist in ensuring patients' nutritional needs are met.
  • The Successful candidates will provide support for patients and families.
  • The Successful candidates will assist in safe and appropriate use and maintenance of equipment.
  • The Successful candidates will adhere to Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Infection Control policies

J54 General Critical Care
J54 General Critical Care is 23 bedded a multi-specialty unit providing critical care bed for Level 3 and Level 2 Critical care patients. J54 is one of only 7 regional centers for liver transplantation as well as providing specialist care for respiratory, cancer, general surgical and thoracic patients.

J81 Surgical- Oncology Critical Care
J81 historically was a 16 bedded level 2 facility caring for surgical and oncology patients. During our response to Covid-19, J81 was required to change into a level 3 and 2 Critical Care unit. This change will now remain, giving us a fantastic opportunity to recruit a larger team at Band 5 level.

We care for multi-specialty surgical patients, liver transplantation and oncology patients requiring Level 2 and 3 care.

If you are enthusiastic and want to ensure high quality patient centered care is delivered, and are passionate about staff engagement, wellbeing and education then this could be the job for you.

This is a unique and exciting time for J81,support and education for the successful candidate will be provided with regards to managing patients requiring level 3 and 2 care.

L03 Neurosurgical Critical Care
L03 is a 16 bedded Unit providing regional specialist Neurosurgical Critical Care for patients following brain and spinal injuries including head injuries, spinal cord injuries, brain haemorrhages and brain and spinal tumours, with Leeds being a world leading center in Neurosurgery. We pride ourselves on having close working relationships with a diverse multi-disciplinary team, including the Organ Donation service, Major Trauma services and Neuro Rehabilitation team providing high quality care to both patients and their families. We offer specialised training to aid staff's development within this fascinating specialty.

L04 Cardiac Critical Care
Cardiac Intensive Care Unit is a 15 bedded mixed level 3 and level 2 area. It specialises in the care of patients following complex heart surgery including coronary bypass grafts, valve replacements and aortic aneurysm surgery. We are one of the largest congenital heart units in the country and provide care to adults from across Yorkshire and Humber and further afield. Staff have access to specialised training and competency assessments on specific advanced cardiac therapies. We are one of the few centres in the UK that currently offers the cardiac advanced life support course.

L06 General Critical Care
L6/7 General Critical Care Unit is a 8 bedded multi-specialty unit providing Critical Care for both Intensive Care and High Dependency patients. L6/7 provides specialist care for ENT, Maxillofacial, Vascular, Cardiology, Neurology, Orthopaedic and Major Trauma patients.

You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service & pay the £13 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment. DBS checks for volunteers are free.
