IT Support Apprentice at Signet Consultancy



Signet Consultancy are a managed service provider facilitating all aspects of businesses IT and technology needs. They are vendor agnostic and use best-of-breed hardware, software, cloud and communication solutions to meet business requirements. They are now looking for an IT Support Apprentice to join their team!


Key Responsibilities

The purpose of this role is to analyse support requests and assign requests to the correct team/engineer. As an IT Support Apprentice, you will provide support & technical assistance to all customers, making an important contribution to overall IT service delivery and providing an excellent standard of service to all customers.

You will assist with procurement and basic admin tasks and create documentation for the service delivery team in assisting with their day-to-day tasks.

You will also manage the resolution of 1st line support incidents, problems, and requests within service and operational level agreements, working with 3rd parties and colleagues within the wider IT team where necessary.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To analyse incidents and deliver technical resolutions if appropriate at level of expertise as part of the IT support service, to contribute to an efficient and effective IT service desk.
  • Review tickets within Service Management systems using established priorities and assign to relevant technical teams.
  • Man the helpdesk telephone system on a daily basis to resolve issues for end users.
  • Learn what notes and updates should be done on tickets.
  • The initial investigation and resolution of incidents relating to business and desktop applications, and subsequent referral to either senior support analysts, to 1st, 2nd/3rd line support, the application management team, or a 3rd party.
  • Learn to deliver end-user introductory training on IT systems.
  • Undertakes daily operational checks as defined and trained by the wider team.
  • Participate in projects as required.
  • Track customer IT assets using software tools.
  • Setup mobile phones and laptops for end users.
  • Deploy and install software to computers.
  • Perform password resets and help end users with profile and connectivity issues.
  • Allow and remove access to folders and email distribution lists.
  • Perform basic proactive tasks for backups and learn how to restore backups.
  • Perform admin tasks and assist the customer service team with procurement, documentation and assignment of support requests.
  • Carry out any other duties as required by the IT Management Team.



Entry Requirements

You’ll need to pass a face to face screening interview with our Talent Team (don’t worry, we’re a friendly bunch) and sit initial assessments in Maths and English. You will be asked detailed questions about both the role and apprenticeship.


Skills Required

  • Demonstrable experience in providing advice and support to customers and stakeholders about IT desktop, infrastructure and business applications.
  • Ability to interpret and translate less complex business and systems problems into technical resolutions and solutions.
  • Enthusiasm and positive attitude to communicating with a range of end-users and stakeholders.
  • The candidate's approach to the role is the most important aspect. They have got to have a positive attitude, want to help people and are willing to learn. Ability to work to tight deadlines as well as manage expectations internally and externally.
  • Willing to support out of hours on occasions when needed to react to unexpected issues.
