We are on the lookout for a highly motivated Trainee Linux Administrator to join our IT Operations and Services department on our apprenticeship programme.The role is hands-on, providing 2nd & 3rd line support for IT systems covering all aspects of the IT infrastructure.

Once qualified, the successful candidate will need to be prepared to occasionally work outside of normal working hours and this may include some late nights and weekends eventually.

Main responsibilities: [will include the following:]
  • Delivery & maintenance of new or improved IT system & DevOps solutions
  • Installation, configuration and administration of operating systems and applications
  • Deployment, implementation, configuration, management, testing, monitoring and administration of CI/CD workflows & hardware platforms
  • Maintaining operations & administration
  • Prioritising, organising, and balancing important tasks

Personal qualities

You will need an interest in or experience demonstrating competence in the activities listed,as well as interest in gaining a relevant apprenticeship qualification (certification or interest in Linux & DevOps technologies, a degree in Computer Science, NVQ or City & Guilds etc. would be a distinct advantage)

Desired qualifications

Entry requirements:
  • Level 3 Software apprenticeship, or
  • A Level in a STEM subject (within the Technology and Maths fields only), or
  • BTEC Diploma in IT and successful completion of our Aptitude Test, or,
  • A minimum of 12 months of work experience within an IT role.

Specific roles that are acceptable are:
  • IT Support roles e.g. Help Desk, First line
  • Software Development Roles

  • You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme. The learners would still be required to successfully pass the Aptitude Test at first attempt.

    If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
