Alan White Design Ltd is recruiting a talented and committed graduate engineer to work with us on a 12 month placement, with the aim of delivering ongoing engineering projects and to implement a new project management system. Project Description

You will be tasked with gathering information on what current processes work well with our staff and clients whilst trialing new ideas. Specifically, you will test out new workflows and review and amend current procedure whilst adhering to ISO 9001.

As well as implementing a new project management system, you will also need to be proficient in the use of AutoCAD and have excellent knowledge of the construction industry and be able to work on projects from start to finish with the support of the other engineers in the office.

Placement Objectives

This placement will see you devising and implementing a new system of working including the introduction of a new project management system. The aim of the new system is to increase efficiency within the business through increased automisation of processes and enabling better communication between staff and clients therefore supporting the business growth aspirations.

Role Description

You will be responsible for implementing a new project management system. You will observe current company practises and using this information, you will conduct research and trial a suitable alternative to support the company and its growth plan.

Main tasks and responsibilities:
  • Work within a team to deliver project outputs
  • Test new workflows, review and analyse output and report to senior management.
  • Lead the work required to implement the new system
  • Produce design reports and design risk assessments
  • Prepare drawings using AutoCAD
  • Liaise with clients to ensure output matches client requirements
  • Enrol onto the company ICE training scheme
  • Participation in CPD and further learning to ensure successful project delivery

Ideally you will have a Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering but we will consider applications from graduates with an Honours degree, providing you possess the essential skills, set out below.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of Temporary Works design to BS5975 procedures
  • Experience in the use of AutoCAD
  • Previous experience within a client facing or customer service role
  • Knowledge of scaffold design and TG 20 procedures
  • Full driving licence
  • Ability to travel for work including overnight stays
