The BBC’s Production Advanced Scheme is well-established as a ‘gold-standard’ start in the industry. If you’re bursting with creative ideas you want to turn into great TV, radio, online or social media content, this scheme could be the first step in your career. You don’t need academic qualifications for this trainee scheme, we’re looking for individuals with potential and a passion for making great content.

Start date: September 2022

Duration: 18 months

Salary: £22,442 (+ London Living Allowance of £4,729 for London based roles)

Places available on scheme: 6

Locations: England (London, Salford, & Birmingham), Northern Ireland (Belfast), and Scotland (Dumbarton)

Typically Leading to: a role as a Junior Researcher, Researcher or Assistant Producer (Radio)

What you'll be doing

Work as part of a BBC production team making world-class content for our audiences on radio, TV or digital in an area that interests you.

Build hands-on editorial experience, from coming up with an idea, pitching, creating the content through to broadcast.

Learn how the production process works from start to finish, including research, finding contributors for shows, setting up filming shoots and audio recordings in studio or on location, gaining experience in recording and editing audio or video, creating call sheets, making bookings and admin tasks.

Get BBC Academy training delivered by experienced trainers in using cameras, audio recording, editing and creating content.

Be supported by experts in their field from the biggest broadcasting organisation in the world.

Production trainees talk about their experiences Who we're looking for

To be eligible for this trainee scheme, you must:

  • Be aged 18 or over when the scheme starts in September 2022
  • Have Maths and English GCSEs at 9-4/A-C or National 5s (Scotland) at A-C or equivalent.
  • Be legally allowed to work in the UK
  • Have been resident in either the UK or EEA (European Economic Area) since 19th September 2019

You’ll need to demonstrate you:

  • Have fresh, creative ideas and are excited by new content
  • Are committed to getting unheard voices and untold stories onto the BBC
  • Are resilient, responsible and can deal with new challenges
  • Have a keen interest in the BBC and want to be a part of its future
  • Are enthusiastic, motivated, and self-starting
  • Have ambition and thrive working in a fast-paced environment
  • Are flexible and adaptable

Don’t worry if you don’t have an extensive CV. It’s not qualifications that will get you a place on this scheme. You may have some experience of running an online blog, working in community radio, or creating short films; but what’s more important to us is your passion to work at the BBC. Whether your ideas to move, inspire and excite audiences lie in radio, TV, podcasts, digital or social media, we’d love to hear them.
