Ultra Electronics, Communication & Integrated Systems (Ultra CIS) is one of the larger UK based Ultra businesses and is operationally run as four business units: Information Assurance, Secure Communications, EWST and Surveillance & Security Systems. These business units are underpinned by a shared services structure which incorporates finance, HR, operations and communications. Across Ultra CIS we provide encryption, network protection, automated payments, tactical and commercial communications and telemetry systems, covert and mobile surveillance systems and situational awareness technology to defence, public sector and commercial customers worldwide.


Rotation between: Secure Communications, Information Assurance, and Surveillance & Security Systems (six-month placements for a total of two years.)

Job Purpose:

This role allows recent Graduates to gain useful experience performing a variety of tasks in Ultra's different Engineering Departments, preparing the Graduates for a permanent role in one of those Departments.

Scope / dimensions:

Working within a team of five-to-ten people, our Graduate Engineers can expect to perform design tasks, write formal documents, learn the use of specialised test equipment and liaise with Customers.

Key Responsibilities:

Typical responsibilities will be:

* Carry out an analysis of a Customer requirement in an Excel Spreadsheet to ensure a viable design is possible.

* Use above analysis to design an electronic circuit, system, or software to satisfy Customer requirement.

* Liaise with colleagues to ensure a prototype can be made.

* Learn how to use specialised test equipment to verify performance of prototype, ensuring that Customer's requirement has been met.

Manage security of information as defined in the Security manual.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Knowledge of one or more of the following:

* Electronics

* Computer Science / Software

* Physics

* Mathematics

* General Engineering


* Degree in Engineering, Electronics, Physics / Natural Sciences, Mathematics, or Computer Science.

* Need to be able to obtain and maintain security clearance and so must have a minimum of five years permanent residency in the UK.
