Job Description:

We are looking for a numerically inclined and highly motivated apprentice who is interested in data - how we manage, govern and utilise data for the benefit of M&G and our customers.   

The successful applicant will be working as part of a team with colleagues in the Chief Data Office (CDO) and business team, learning new tools and skills to deliver successful projects. They will have the opportunity to work in roles across the CDO, gaining experience in our Data Management and Data Lab teams. They will support the delivery of CDO projects by undertaking data engineering, data analysis and data visualisation tasks as part of the Data Lab team. They will work with business teams to deploy data quality tooling and the creation of data quality rules and dashboards.  

The apprentice will also have an opportunity to learn a variety of the skills and experience required as a data professional in the CDO.

The Chief Data Office is establishing group-wide access to data which is understood, trusted, available and valued. It aims to create an environment where data is valued by the organisation and, in turn, is used to generate value.

To enable this, the Data Management team develop and execute policies and controls which ensure we can trust our data, mitigate risk and drive business value from our data. The Data Lab focus on the exploitation of data by providing innovative solutions to complex business problems across the enterprise and introduces data led ways of working.

Your daily duties may include:

- Analysis, engineering and integrity checking of data used in each project
- The development of reporting dashboards in visualisation tools such as PowerBI
- Populate data lineage and data definitions with our Data Catalogue tool which helps ensure we understand the source of our data and how it can be used
- Working with business users to capture technical metadata (information which describes the data)
- Creation of data quality rules, exception management workflows
- Creation of Dashboards to track and measure the quality and accuracy of the data he business use to support decision making
- Providing ad hoc support to wider team as and when required
- You will also get exposure to a number of different projects and initiatives within the team, and the chance to participate and contribute in regular team meetings

Training Provided:

As a Junior Data Analyst Apprentice with BPP, you will undertake the Level 3 Data Technician Apprenticeship. The apprenticeship will be delivered through a blend of live online learning, pre-recorded lectures, and face to face inductions and masterclasses.

Qualification Requirements:

As a minimum, candidate will have 2 A levels with good grades in Maths and English (A-C).

Alternatively, you will have 2 years of work experience in financial services industry or customer services.

Personal Qualities & Skills:

- Good and confident communication skills, both written and verbal
- High level of accuracy and good attention to detail
- Structured approach to work and very well organised
- Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
- Moderate understanding of the MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Good numerical skills
- A proactive team player who is confident about working with others but also independently and can promptly escalate any issue and work remotely where required
- Logical and analytical approach coupled with intelligence, passion and a drive to learn
- Ability to formulate own opinions by thinking analytically about problems
- Empathy and good listening skills

The successful applicant will have strong desire to learn and a genuine interest in data, technology and financial services industry.

The applicant would ideally have an inquisitive nature and be curious.

Future Prospects:

This is a fixed term contract for 15 months upon which the business may decide to retain, subject to the Apprentice performance, headcount and available funding. If recruited into a permanent role, the individual will follow the career progression applicable to the specific role/department.
