Industrial automation is the way forward for business in the 21st century. More and more businesses are turning to automation to do strenuous, manual and dangerous tasks. Would you like to get involved with engineering robotic and automated solutions for a wide range of industries?

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Assisting with the build of machinery.
  • Commisioning of machinery and robotics.
  • Build, install, test, and commisioning of electrical control panels.
  • Site installation of control panels, machinery, and robotics.

A strong candidate will enjoy learning and enjoy a wide variety of tasks and challenges. An enjoyment and aptitude for problem solving is crucial. All employees at all levels are encouraged to help problem solve and troubleshoot. The candidate must work well in a team and be adaptable.

Desired qualifications

You must be able to demonstrate an aptitude for electrical/automation, which may be achieved through a variety of methods including:
  • Work experience
  • Hobbies
  • Academic qualifications

In addition, you will need one of the following
  • A minimum of two A-Levels at grade C or above, including a mathematical based subject and a science, technology, engineering or an additional mathematics-related subject
  • An Engineering BTEC Level 3 with at least 120 credits at MM (merit merit) level
  • An EAL Diploma in an Engineering-based subject at merit or above
  • Equivalent qualifications such as Technical Levels at MM or above

Applicants are also required to undertake a series of assessments at the AMRC Training Centre before being offered a place on an apprenticeship. For this programme these will focus on your understanding of electrical principles.

Future prospects

Completion of this apprenticeship is just the start of your career and can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors.

Things to consider

  • During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study
  • One Friday per month you will return to your workplace
  • After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study
  • The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job
