Will I enjoy the role if a Cover Supervisor?
Working as a cover supervisor can be extremely rewarding but also very demanding. There is a high level of responsibility, however, there is always a teacher close at hand if needed. Schools may wish to employ staff for cover supervision but on occasions where they are not needed for cover, they might also be released to provide additional support to teachers in classrooms, or to carry out administrative tasks for example. If you prefer, you can also attend one of our free 'Cover Supervisor' training workshops which are run by the Educate team - we believe in providing you with the tools and training to help you enjoy and develop in the role.
Typical parts of the role:
* Complete school registers
* Cover classes across key stages three, four and five
* Engage students in the completing of the classwork set in their teacher's absence
* Interact with students (sense of humour can help) and have strong classroom presence
* Ensure excellent classroom habits
* Deal with pupil behaviour using each schools own protocol or system.

Do I need qualifications or experience?
A cover supervisor will typically enjoy varying challenges across a wide range of settings. The position would suit the following:
* Graduates considering a career in teaching (ideally have experience of working with children)
* Retired teachers
* Sports coaches and tutors
* Members of the emergency services i.e. police, fire and ambulance
* Youth workers and the probation service
* Experienced teaching assistants.
You will need to:
* Complete an Educate application
* Attend a registration interview
* Provide references (we apply for these on your behalf)
* Apply for a 'Child Only' DBS if you don't already have one on the 'DBS Update Service
* Apply to be a member of the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
