What will the apprentice be doing?
You will be working across a range of teams who each have a different environmental focus but who are all committed to improving the environment for both people and wildlife. During the apprenticeship you may be involved in flood and coastal risk management, helping to improve air or water quality, or a variety of ecological projects.
You will receive a minimum of 20% of your contracted hours to focus on your apprenticeship.
This is a permanent position and your employment with us will continue permanently on the completion of your apprenticeship.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Keele University will deliver the following academic elements
Combining block release and distance learning
Distance learning aspects to include:
-live workshops & discussions
-pre-recorded lectures
-set reading
-coursework
Block release for (5 days on campus, generally 2x /year)
-laboratory skills
-fieldwork skills
-specialist computer skills (e.g. statistics & GIS)
On completion you will have obtained:
BSc (Hons) Environmental Science (Practitioner)
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
On completion you will have obtained a degree, plus an apprenticeship recognised by organisations such as Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and others. You will also have gained suffient insight to understand the very different types of work we do, and to identify which career route within the Environment Agency would be of most interest to you.

Things to consider
Over the duration of the apprenticeship you must be able to travel to Keele University on a 'block release' basis. You must also be comfortable working both outdoors and within an office environment. Depending on the Location an alternative university may deliver this Apprenticeship.
