Our Service

The Criminal Justice Liaison & Diversion Service (CJLDS) is a countywide service to Kent and Medway's police custody suites, magistrates, crown courts and wider community.CJLDS is an all age, all vulnerability service, providing liaison and diversion both inside and outside of the criminal justice system. We screen and assess individuals over the age of 10, suspected of committing a crime, to identify health and social care vulnerabilities. The aim of the service is to improve service user experience by connecting them with the right service at the right time - potentially reducing rates of reoffending and improving health and social care outcomes for the people that we serve.

We are a multidisciplinary team consisting of mental health nurses, social workers, liaison and diversion workers, apprentices and lived experience practitioners. We work closely with the police, courts, youth offending teams, probation, community mental health teams, social care providers and many more health and social care partners.

Main duties of the job

The New 'Reconnect' Function

CJLDS has recently secured funding to extend our service provision to deliver Reconnect in Kent. Reconnect is a new Liaison & Diversion function, currently being rolled out nationally. The CJLDS Reconnect sub-team will seek to screen, assess and engage potentially vulnerable individuals, pre-release from HM Prisons, chiefly HMP Elmley. The team will then support resettlement upon release, by signposting, referring or handing over to primary, secondary and third-sector health and social care services. The work will be short-term, targeted and outcome-driven; delivered by a small team of Liaison & Diversion practitioners and peer support workers. A Band 7 team manager will lead this function.

The Role

We are seeking to recruit a forward thinking, enthusiastic and skilled person to join the CJLDS team leadership structure. The role will require a self-starter, with the skills to adopt a visible leadership role in setting-up, evolving and maintaining a new service.
