You will assist Stockdale's experienced team of quantity surveyors and project managers with managing costs at all stages of construction projects and work in close collaboration with clients, architects, and engineers as part of wider design teams.

Facilitating quality developments, which meet our client's budgets and timescales, your role will include supporting the following activities:
  • Estimates and cost plans
  • Design team meetings
  • Tender compilation, issue, and analysis
  • Pre-qualification and contractor selection
  • Procurement, programming, and sequence planning
  • Contract documentation
  • Site meetings, inspections, and valuations
  • Cost reporting and cashflow
  • Managing materials cost and contractor data bases
  • Researching budget costs
  • Materials and process investigation.

You will be mainly office based but you will visit project sites regularly. In year 1 most of your work is likely to be cost planning while you gain the confidence and technical knowledge to carry out post-contract duties. We have a diverse portfolio of projects and you will gain knowledge of different building types and construction methods across industry sectors.

  • The ability to analyse and interpret information quickly and accurately
  • Good IT skills and high competency in Microsoft software
  • Attention to detail with presentation of work to a high standard.

  • Enthusiastic with a genuine interest in construction and design.

Desired qualifications

  • A Level BBBor;
  • BTEC National Diploma DDMor;
  • Access to HE qualifications with 24 Distinctions 21 Meritsor;
  • Equivalent level 3 qualifications worth 128 UCAS points
  • Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above).

Advanced entry

For those holding a Level 4 qualification with specific grades, it may be possible to enter onto Level 5 of the course and 'top up' your existing qualification to a full degree:
  • BTEC HNC/HND in a Quantity Surveying/Building related subject
  • Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Quantity Surveying/Building related subject
  • Construction Surveying Technician Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship or;
  • Cognate Level 4 qualification in Construction and Built Environment

Future prospects

We want our apprentices to quickly become an integral part of our team and to thrive in their career ambitions. When deemed ready by the partners apprentices will take responsibility for managing aspects of their own projects giving them first-hand experience and opportunities to learn and make a positive impact. We would anticipate employment as an assistant surveyor on graduation and completion of the apprenticeship. Our experienced team includes senior surveyors, associates and partners who have started their careers with us whilst studying one day a week at university for their degree's. We have a low staff turnover and history of supporting staff through their academic education and chartered membership.

Things to consider

Most projects will be in the London area, but you may need to travel outside London on occasion. We are a friendly team who enjoy our work and arrange social events and activities throughout the year.
