About the apprenticeship


• Providing administration support for all HR matters to a high-quality standard and within agreed timescales
• Maintaining paperwork and all employee records on our in-house computer systems
• Producing basic letters and other HR related correspondence
• Providing first line response to all phone queries and provide basic advice where appropriate, in line with policies and procedures.
• Supporting people and managers with basic queries on policies and processes.
• Assisting with starters paperwork queries, checking paperwork to ensure that starters meet legal requirements and policy requirements and that all documentation is present and completed.
• Assisting with the recruitment process including placing adverts, producing recruitment timetables and CV Sifting
• Maintaining an awareness of HR best practice at all times.
• Providing and promoting HR services.
• Maintaining information in a confidential manner, following data protection regulations and ensuring the HR operational team and personnel files and recruitment records are GDPR compliant.

• You will be mentored by a member of the HR team
• Support will be offered on site to fulfil the requirements of the Apprenticeship scheme



• Good IT skills; ability to use Microsoft Office packages including word and Outlook.
• Excellent organisational skills, in order to manage work to meet conflicting deadlines.
• High level of attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, in person, by telephone and in email
• Strong time management & organisational skills, has the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
• Friendly professional manner and appearance
• Driven and self-motivated
• Able to work within a team
• Able to prioritise and organise own workload
• Able to work on own initiative, sometimes working under pressure and to tight timescales.

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
