Podiatry Apprentice - Band 2

Podiatry Service - Wiltshire

37.5 Hours per Week - Apprenticeship (Fixed Term Contract)

The apprenticeship role commences in September 2022.

Are you caring, compassionate, motivated and interested in developing your career within the health service? Then this may be the opportunity for you! Join us at Wiltshire Health and Care, train to become a qualified Podiatrist and gain a BSc Hons degree in Podiatry whilst you work. The Podiatrist Apprenticeship is a new and innovative route to 'Learn while you Earn' and combines 3 years of clinical employment, work based learning, and academic learning. It is a fully funded route towards qualification as a HCPC registered Podiatrist.

Podiatrists are registered Allied Healthcare Professionals (AHP's) specialising in the lower limb (feet, ankles, and legs), providing high quality clinical care to people of all ages. A Podiatrist's job is to work to protect people's feet, providing preventative advice, care, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a range of problems affecting the foot and lower limb. Podiatry is a rewarding and varied healthcare profession. It is suited to individuals that can communicate well, enjoy problem solving and wish to develop practical and intellectual skills to improve patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job

This is a 3 year work-based programme, with allocated time to work under supervision from podiatrists and allocated off-the-job learning time - remote lectures and learning offered by The University of Plymouth who will support the apprentice in gaining evidence-based knowledge and academic skills to gain both theoretical understanding and clinical aptitude.

During the apprenticeship you will develop skills that will allow you to work in today's dynamic and changing healthcare environment. Whilst you will be based in a specific team, your placements will give you a variety of learning environments, working across clinical placements to gain an appreciation of the different areas of the healthcare service. The Podiatry Apprenticeship combines full-time employment, work-based learning and academic study. Apprentices will work in a supported learning environment with our friendly supportive team to develop their clinical competencies and knowledge related to the role of a Podiatrist. You will be patient facing from the start so that you can apply and develop your new knowledge and skills with increasing confidence.

The academic part will be distance learning. 1 day a week will be dedicated to theory provided by the University. 1 day will be self-directed e-learning and the rest will be spent working within the Podiatry department.
