Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Medical Directorate at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital for dynamic, committed, compassionate and enthusiastic staff nurses to join a team of highly motivated and committed nursing staff within the medical ward specialising in infectious diseases.The post is for a full time position to work 37.5 hours per week on internal rotation. Shifts consist of long days, early shifts/late shifts and night shifts.Ward 3Y is a 19 beddedTropical infectious diseases wardcaring forpatients with acute infections such as meningitis, CDT, Influenza, TB, food-borne infections and tropical infections experienced by returning travellers, also chronic conditions such as HIV.We have strong links with Ward 3X isolation unitthe Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, the departments of Genito-urinary medicine and Clinical Pharmacology.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team caring for patient and undertaking delegated tasks from the ward manager/ward sister with the opportunity to improve and expand on your clinical knowledge.

We put patients at the heart of all that we do and working collaboratively to deliver the very best for our patients.There is an excellent preceptorship programme designed to facilitate efficient development of competence, confidence and expertise. Support will be given at a clinical level by a Preceptor, and from a wider organisational structure including the Preceptorship Lead, Clinical Skills team and Learning and Development.You must possess a caring, compassionate and positive manner and have excellent communication skills.

Job responsibilities

Participate in maintaining safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.

Determines nursing priorities and plans patient care. Informs the nurse in charge when changes in circumstances may effect patient care.

Maintaining nursing recorded in accordance with the NMC and Trust Guidelines

Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical bench marking within the unit.

Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.

Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.
