As anApprentice Estimator what will I be doing?

You will provide technical assistance in the production of high quality tender submissions and other business development activities as required, whilst ensuring that all relevant Company Group & Sector Specific Procedures and Policies are met, in accordance with the Integrated Business Management System.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Establish and maintain tender file, check documents upon receipt of tender and advise of any inconsistencies establish and maintain tender drawing register
  • Produce tender data sheet
  • Produce and dispatch tender enquiry packages for subcontract services.
  • Assist in the preparation of/Prepare bills of quantities in line with the clients contract sum analysis
  • Perform calculations of area/volume quantities from drawings to feed into the bill of quantities and retain calculations
  • Establish a schedule of materials for each tender and obtain costs for such materials
  • Maintain the supplier database and file associated literature
  • Log returned quotations from subcontractors and suppliers
  • Request missing/unreturned quotations from subcontractors/suppliers.
  • Assist in managing designer input and design philosophy at tender stage
  • Carry out computation checking and comparisons of returned quotations
  • Check returned quotations comply with clients specification and advise accordingly
  • Carry out basic pricing and preparing of tenders and budget cost plans, with escalating complexity
  • Preparation of tender technical submissions

Other Duties Include::
  • Attend tender launch meetings and tender stage site visits
  • Visit sites during construction period and assist in obtaining feedback
  • Visit sites at completion to obtain photographs for marketing purposes
  • Assist in the development of improving tender submissions
  • Delivery of Tender Submissions
  • Archiving Tender documents/submissions
  • Develop and maintain databases for suppliers and subcontractors

In addition to the apprenticeship training you will receive hands on experience including mentoring and coaching from experienced members of the team. On this apprenticeship programme you will learn a range of skills.

Desired qualifications

  • GCSE English and maths at grade 4/C or above or equivalent is preferred.
  • A Level or equivalent
  • Driving licence due to the nature and location of the role.


Future prospects

Following completion of Level 4 Apprenticeship:
  • Option 1 - progress onto higher level apprenticeship
  • Option 2 - continue role full-time within the business
