Job Details
As a member of the team you will offer general assistance to the practice and project a positive and friendly image to the patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone. You will receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way as well as process repeat prescription requests and manage all incoming correspondence.
You will be required to undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice including providing clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team.
We are looking for candidates who have excellent IT skills and, although previous experience in the NHS is desirable, it is not essential as full training will be given. Knowledge of SystmOne would be an added benefit.
Main duties of the job
Receive patients
Process appointment requests for today/future appointments from patients by telephone and in person.
Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patients
To have a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures
To work in accordance of written protocols
Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary
Registrations of new patients
Process patients changes of address
Answer telephone in a polite and professional manner
Take accurate messages
Transfer calls to the correct member of practice team
Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients needs
Effectively manage own time, workload and resources
Communicate effectively with other team members, patients and carers
Recognise needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly
Flexible with regard to working hours, e.g. holiday and/or sickness cover

We are a busy medical Practice in the town of Mirfield, West Yorkshire with over 18000 patients.
We have 11 GPs,
1 ACP,
8 ANPs,
4 Nurses
supported by a friendly and efficient admin team.

Personal/professional development:
The post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, with such training to include:
Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development
Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work
Contract/ Hours
Shift patterns vary but usual shifts are typically a mixture of either 8am-1.00pm or 1.00pm - 6.30pm Mon- Fri.
The contracted hours will be 20 hours per week across 3 or 4 days.
++ There may be opportunities for the successful applicant to pick up additional shifts at our covid vaccination centre in Dewsbury Health Centre (optional)++
