Editorial (Visual Arts) Apprentice at Bloomsbury Publishing

 

Description

The Academic Editorial Team for Bloomsbury Visual Arts are now looking for an editorial apprentice who can offer general administrative support for various elements of the editorial process. You will be supporting colleagues within the department and liaising with authors, customers and other departments such as Marketing and Production, to deliver a high standard of author care.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing and administering the sending/signing of non-royalty bearing contracts (contributor etc) 
  • Completing applications for CIP data and copyright registration
  • Commissioning peer reviews and soliciting pre-publication endorsements for projects as requested by their manager; ensuring these are delivered in a timely way; recording the progress of all projects under review/out for endorsement; ensuring payment as necessary
  • Arranging ordering of copies of published books
  • Maintaining physical and electronic book files and records
  • Supporting editorial staff in managing data on internal database (Biblio)
  • Responding promptly and appropriately to external and internal inquiries
  • Checking and, if necessary, clearing copyright permissions under guidance from manager
  • Prepare scripts for handover to production to agreed standards and on schedule
  • Put together cover briefs, cover copy and briefs cover designs, where required
  • Completing pro forma such as cheque requisitions and book orders
  • Carrying out research into new projects on request of manager
  • Sending emails/letters of acknowledgment and rejection
  • Undertaking administrative tasks such as filing and archiving of paperwork

Entry Requirements

You’ll need to attend an online Zoom screening interview with our Talent Team (don’t worry, we’re a friendly bunch!) and pass initial assessments in Maths and English.

  • Highly organised with the ability to multi-task, combined with the ability to prioritize appropriately 
  • Exceptional attention to detail and command of English spelling and grammar
  • Well organised, efficient and hardworking
  • Good time management with ability to meet deadlines and handle competing priorities
  • Calm and able to solve problems under pressure
  • Flexible, with ability to prioritise effectively and work independently
  • Effective teamworking, networking and building relationships 
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) to internal and external contacts
  • Strong IT skills including competency in using Microsoft Office, Word and Excel
  • Commercial awareness and customer focus 
  • Places a high value on quality of content, author care, company reputation and sustained customer relationship
  • An interest in Academic publishing
  • Focusses on solutions, not problems
