Rotational Physiotherapist - Band 5

Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation - Long Covid Service

37.5 Hours per Week - 22 Month Fixed Term Contract

We are looking for an enthusiastic and empathetic Physiotherapist to join our Long Covid Assessment team. You will need to have HCPC registration and be able to demonstrate awareness/understanding of long COVID, but a training and supervision package will be provided.

This post offers the opportunity to rotate between Long Covid Assessment/Rehab Team and Marlborough Community Team. Additional rotations may become available, e.g MSK Physiotherapy, Savernake/Chippenham Hospital wards.

Your first rotation will be working to provide the BSW (Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire) single point of access Long Covid Rehab service.

The BSW Long Covid Rehab team is made up of Respiratory nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, rehab support workers and is supported by a multi-disciplinary team from across BSW comprising Cardiologist, Respiratory Consultant, Local GP's, Commissioners and allied health professions. The service was set up in December 2020 in response to the pandemic and the emerging needs of patients suffering with long lasting Covid symptoms.

Main duties of the job

As a Physiotherapist you will be working with the clinical team in the north of the region to support the development of the Long Covid service, and evaluate and implement timely changes. You will assess, treat and learn interventions for people who have Long Covid Symptoms. You will be supported to learn how to undertake exercise tests and make breathlessness and fatigue management interventions. You will be expected to have experience of working with clients with long term conditions, interest in pulmonary rehabilitation/respiratory issues such as breathlessness management. You must have good communication skills and will be trained to support activity management, pacing and breathlessness management. You will be expected to work closely with clinicians across Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire, sharing your knowledge and skills through training and educational events and supervision.

We have computer-based notes, and benefit from shared patient records with the GP's and other healthcare professionals.

In order to fulfil future career aspirations and invest in the long-term proficiencies of our staff we are developing more advanced career pathways in GP practices and Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner clinics. We are also creating secondment opportunities in Acute/Specialist hospital settings and Community Teams.

Qualifications

Essential

  • HCPC Registered.
  • BSc or equivalent in Physiotherapy.
  • Completion of student placements.


Desirable

  • MCSP.
  • MSK / Community / Acute work based training.
  • Accredited Training.


Travel

Essential

  • Access to a Vehicle and a Full UK Driving Licence.


Experience

Essential

  • 1 year experience at Band 5 level.
  • Experience in Respiratory or Pulmonary Rehab.
  • Experience delivering class based treatment.
  • Experience participating in clinical and/or operational audits.


Desirable

  • Band 5 Level Rotations.
  • Experience of NHS working.
  • Experience of working in a community based service.
