What will the apprentice be doing?

Our Component Engineering team in our Stafford facility is home to the Caterpillar Global Engine Development Centre, a state-of-the-art facility that positions technical specialists where they are needed most to identify, build and perfect the technologies and solutions to help our customers be successful. Caterpillar invests more than $2 billion each year in research and development across the organisation, and our global engineering community, such as our Product Engineering and Development team, powers our efforts. This particular team employ those technologies and solutions to provide class leading power systems to both Caterpillar and other original equipment manufacturers (OEM's). In addition, you will have the opportunity to witness the development of, for mass production, diesel engines, their associated after-treatment and their integration into machines used in power generation.

Our Service and Customer Support team work to make our customers more successful every day by supporting the technical aspects of installing and caring for our products with end user throughout their lifecycle.

Day to day duties will include but not be limited to:

· answering technical questions from customers,

· supporting new engine installations into machines with customers,

· managing engine service and quality issues,

· producing engine service training material and literature,

· managing warranty claims

· visiting customers to provide field support,

· continually strive to improve the quality of our Products and Services working with our engineering teams to provide customer insight,

During the programme you will be rotating around different teams within the area but also in other functions such as Sales and Engineering to build a network and knowledge base to develop and be successful.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Product Design and Development Engineer (Degree) Apprenticeship - Level 6 - The apprenticeship will be delivered in the workplace and on-site.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship scheme, you will continue in your chosen role where you may be offered a position within our world-class team with plenty of opportunity for long-term progression within one of the departments listed previously. Many of our former apprentices now occupy senior management roles within our organisation, as career development is the foundation to all our apprenticeship schemes. There is the opportunity for employees who excel to undertake additional qualification (masters level / management based)

BTEC or equivalent National Extended Diploma in Engineering (Grade 3x Merit) Desired
