What will the apprentice be doing?

The Apprentice Operations Chemist will join the polymer manufacturing team based in our Leeds site and learn a variety of chemical production processes and test methods.

Key duties:
  • Hands-on polymer manufacturing (synthesis and purification).
  • Cleaning, preparation and calibration of glassware, reagents and equipment.
  • Assisting with the optimisation, scale-up and process validation of new or existing manufacturing equipment or processes.
  • Hands-on assistance with any other Operations duties associated elsewhere within the manufacturing facility (cleaning, manufacturing, packaging).

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The Apprentice Operations Chemist will complete a part time BSc Apprenticeship in Chemistry at the University of Bradford. This will incorporate 1 day per week for online academic study and a 2 week practical class on campus at Bradford over the summer.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

On successful completion of the course the candidate will be offered a full time permanent position as an Operations Chemist.
