About the apprenticeship

Duties

Your main responsibilities will include; Operating the reception area; Greeting customers and answering enquiries in a polite and courteous manner; Briefing the customers on the rules of play and safety measures in place as well as telling them about the events and creative activities that we have available; Serving customers food and beverages once the appropriate training has been undertaken; Maintaining high standards of health and safety in the playroom, café, toilets and surrounding areas of the centre and undertake several cleaning tasks to ensure that our areas remain spotless. It is essential to learn about all aspects of the business, as they are all important in making the customer experience an excellent one and to ensure that the whole business runs smoothly.
Within your role and as you develop through training undertaken, you will be taught about all aspects of the business - for example, cashing up, budgeting, planning activities and events making sure they are costed correctly, ordering stock, filing important documents, making sure the correct forms are ready weekly for the kitchen records and filed correctly, responding to customers queries on the telephone and via emails, note taking, learning to open and close and the run the premises on a day to day basis and being able to plan ahead for the future using the knowledge gained.

Role Play Lane is based in Llantwit Fardre and is a role play centre for young children aged from walking to 7 years old and its aim is to encourage parent-child communication through meaningful play. It is devoted to the physical, emotional and social development of children, inspiring them to explore environments they are familiar with, play creatively and develop their imaginations in a safe and welcoming environment. It also hosts educational classes, parties and events, which are either facilitated by members of staff or third party providers.

Skills

You must have a positive and ‘can do' attitude and be willing to take on board new challenges and feedback given as the role develops.
Be an organised individual and have good attention to detail.
You must have a good work ethic and be able to complete work to deadlines given.
You must be sociable, polite and courteous to customers and children attending at all times and go above and beyond for our customers to maintain our excellent feedback.
Candidates must have an excellent knowledge and understanding of hygiene and cleanliness and customer service skills.
You must have an NVQ Level 2 in Food Hygiene, a DBS and a First Aid qualification or willing to obtain these. (Training will be given).
Desirable requirements include: Experience of working with children or running/budgeting events, previous administration work, shadowing manager roles or some admin responsibilities within your role.
Essential:
Be signed up on a relevant Apprenticeship Course - Business Admin Level 2.
Available to work most weekends
Some flexibility with working hours due to the varied nature of the business.
Good customer service skills

Desirable:
NVQ Level 2 in Food Hygiene
DBS certificate
Experience in Childcare, play work or similar
Experience with advertising on social media
Management skills
First Aid qualification
Knowledge of safeguarding

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
