Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join the stroke and neurological outlier physiotherapy team as an assistant on a 12 month fixed term contract. Therapy assistants work as part of a therapy team and have a key role to play in facilitating patients to reach their full potential after or during illness. The post available is within the neurological rehabilitation team who treat patients within the hospital setting. These patients have a variety of neurological conditions such as: stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis and many more.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be carrying out treatment utilising a variety of basic therapy techniques following assessment of patients by a therapist. These include treatments such as assisting a patient to carry out activities of daily living, assisting patients to walk with an appropriate aid, completing specific exercises, practising safe stair-climbing etc. Following an induction period, the post holder will be expected to progress to managing their own patients.

You will be provided regular supervision and support within the team.

Must have the following experience:
  • Have delivered care to patients or clients in health or social care setting
  • Have basic keyboard/IT skills
  • Of working in a team.

We are looking for candidates with good communication skills and the ability to work flexibly. Good written, computer, organisational and time management skills are essential. The work requires the ability to assist in manual handling of patients. The successful candidates should be able to work independently and as part of a team. They will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and be committed to further personal and professional development.

  • oGCSE or equivalent in Maths and English
